National Wildlife Refuge Boundary Signs are used to mark the boundaries of all national wildlife refuges except those in Alaska. They carry the message that unauthorized entry is prohibited, which is not applicable for Alaskan refuges since their boundaries have been legally designated as open. The Service Boundary sign (FWS-A-1) is used to designate the boundaries on Alaskan Refuges. Refuge managers should use good judgement when placing Boundary signs. For example, Boundary signs with Unauthorized Entry Prohibited should not be placed directly adjacent to trail heads or entrances to boardwalks.
