Smart, hands-free activation for a safer crossing experience

TAPCO’s Smart Crosswalk combines three layers of smart technology, designed to enhance pedestrian safety: Detection, illumination and capture.

Flexible power options are available for any crosswalk, including low-power solar options to support more versatile and equitable placements in any community.

Only 28% of pedestrians press the push button at crosswalks — which is why our passive detection is designed to sense when vulnerable road users are approaching the crosswalk and automatically activates the system’s safety enhancements for a safer crossing experience.

SafeWalk® and Camera

When triggered by a pedestrian, the crosswalk illuminator activates to enhance visibility and the camera begins capturing the crosswalk event.

VizMark®

With the optional addition of VizMark®, provide motorists with important context ahead of stop and yield lines.

Passive Detection

Each system is equipped with radar to support passive detection capabilities, with custom-drawn zones to determine where a pedestrian is detected.

Push Button

In addition to passive detection and activation, each Smart Crosswalk automatically comes equipped with push buttons to support ADA requirements.

CVI

Implement CVI capabilities to connect with CVI-equipped vehicles for enhanced awareness.

Power Options

Choose from a variety of flexible power options, including AC and low-power solar.

Alert Options

How does your passive detection work?

When a vulnerable road user approaches the crosswalk, our passive detection senses the user and automatically activates the crosswalk. Our passive detection is radar-equipped and can differentiate between vulnerable road users and vehicles, and upon installation, angencies can custom-draw activation zones to determine where the system should begin detecting road users.

What if I want a push button instead of passive detection?

To support ADA requirements, all crosswalks will automatically come with a push button — even when equipped with passive detection. Research has shown that only 28% of pedestrians push the button at a crosswalk — so we’ve added passive detection to our measures as an extra layer of safety.

Can I scale up from an entry-level system to a smart system later?

Yes — TAPCO’s crosswalk portfolio is designed to adapt to any needs. Agencies can start with an entry-level crosswalk first and later on, add smart capabilities like passive detection, smart activation, cameras and smart city software.
