Optimum Legibility and Message Definition
The SMC-1000HE automatically adjusts illumination intensity to accommodate any light condition. The character board array is covered by a UV-inhibited and impact resistant lexan shield to prevent fading and create the greatest transmission of light, while reducing headlight and sunlight glare.

30-day Autonomy
Solar powered systems require that the power used (load) be supported by an adequate energy storage facility (battery bank) and generator (solar panels). The top-mounted solar panel ensures maximum exposure to the sun without shadows. A fully-charged battery bank will power the unit for 30 days without sun. The solar panel array recharges the battery bank in 2 1/2 hours of good sunlight for each additional day of operation. The battery bank contains four deep cycle, lead acid 12-volt batteries wired in parallel, and a built-in battery charger. They are locked in heavy duty, weather proof steel battery boxes, and can be charged using a 120-volt AC outlet. The unit may also be operated using 120-volt power.

Easy Computer Programming
The dedicated on-board computer, full keyboard and LCD screen make it very easy to use. It holds 250 preprogrammed messages, and stores up to 250 custom messages. It is capable of displaying up to six messages in sequence and storing up to 100 sequences. It also has a flashing message function. The on-board computer has a diagnostic program and 2-level password coding (for operation and programming), and provides a control to monitor all major power and resource functions. The computer and power control unit are encased in a shock and weather-resistant, lockable control box. The power control unit regulates the system control charge, the batteries, and the message board, with thermal compensation for variances in ambient temperature, which controls the battery bank charge rate. You can monitor the amperage generated by the battery charger and the solar panels via displays placed on the front panel.

The SMC-1000HE uses high quality automotive paint, 2"x 6" 11-gauge steel frame and 3500-pound suspension system for years of dependable service. Heavy duty surge brakes make transport safer. Four leveling jacks allow proper placement and stability. The 76"x 127" message board is supported by a hydraulic telescoping support that enables it to be raised a maximum of seven feet and rotated 360 degrees, with a sighting device to assure proper directional alignment. The sign also has a locking mechanism to secure it during display and travel modes.

Solar-Assist Power
The four 4D deep-cycle batteries are recharged by a solar panel array sized to provide optimum charge capability and long-lasting service. This design allows for 24 days of operation without sunlight and recharges the batteries for a full day of operation with only 4 hours of sunlight. Tth top-mounted solar panels are designed to provide optimum charge capability to the batteries in both travel and display positions. Temperature range is -20ºF to 120ºF.
