Visible Markings Even When It Rains Work zones put drivers at risk
There’s no doubt about it—work zones create potentially dangerous driving conditions for motorists and highway workers. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, in 2005 there were 1,074 fatalities from motor vehicle crashes in work zones—a 55 percent increase over 1997 numbers.

In addition, in 2003 more than 41,000 people were injured in work zone crashes, up 15 percent from 1996. These statistics have not gone unnoticed by the public and private sectors. The U.S. DOT has taken a leadership role in making work zones safer for motorists and workers. Standard pavement markings “disappear” in wet weather
Work zones today are illuminated by a variety of devices and materials. Highly reflective sheeting on signs and other channeling devices use the latest in optical technology to guide motorists in all weather conditions. Pavement markings, on the other hand, have not been able to benefit from these technologies. Attempts at making pavement markings reflective in the rain have generally focused on raising beads above the road surface or simply making them larger. The common denominator among these markings is the need for water to drain away from the beads. Although all pavement markings are reflective when new, most lose reflectivity under water. These pavement markings simply “disappear” on the road when drivers need them most.

This Temporary Removable Masking Tape is a polymerbased tape and uses a pressure-sensitive adhesive. It covers existing road markings to prevent them from conflicting with existing markings in road works, construction sites and temporary traffic deviation. It is ideal for masking lane lines, edge lines, crossovers, and counter flows common to road works, constructions sites and temporary traffic deviations. It is durable and will last for the duration of a normal construction season.

Removable Road Tape solves your temporary marking problems. Extremely durable for marking and ease of removal without surface marring. It is a solution for temporary traffic deviations and delineation through road works and construction sites. It consists of a durable and flexible rubber composite layer with a polyurethane coating. Recommendations for optimal application, durabillity and ease of removal:
Air and surface temperature above 40 degrees fahrenheit and rising. A completely dry surface, free from oil, dust, loose particles, sand, dirt and other forms of contamination. Primer, when used in addition to the tape, will enhance durability and ease of removal.

Series 100 marking tape is an easy to install, highly durable, completely removable means of providing temporary roadway delineation. The composition of Series 100 is designed to provide superior daytime visibility as well as excellent nighttime reflectivity for portland cement and bituminous surfaces. Series 100 is available in white and yellow, in a variety of widths, as well as words and symbols, and is intended primarily for construction zones that may be opened to traffic immediately after application.

This series of tape consists of a highly reflective layer of select glass spheres bonded to the specially formulated blend of polymer resins, pigments, and filters, evenly dispersed with glass spheres and an integrated reinforcing system. The bottom side of is coated with a unique pressure sensitive adhesive designed to adhere to properly prepared bituminous and portland cement surfaces without the use of heat, solvents, or other extra measures. When measured using ASTM Test Method D4061, Series 100 tapes exhibit the following minimum initial values expressed as specific luminance in millicandelas per square meter per lux .

The entrance angle should be 86º. This series of tape has a specially formulated, abrasion-resistant top coating designed to securely hold the surface layer of glass beads. The following two tests demonstrate the effectiveness of this coating. For removal, it may be necessary to use a sharp edge to start the removal, then lift one edge of the tape and pull at a 90º angle to the surface. The temperature should be 40ºF or higher to avoid breakage.
