The Speed Awareness Monitor (SAM) is a lower cost alternative to the SMTM, and features an electrically operated lifting mechanism for easy deployment in the field, large capacity storage and changeable speed limit sign. It is available with or without a solar recharging system.

The SAM has a large, 18" LED display that is visible from 1100 feet, making it a cost-effective method for promoting safer roads through speed limit compliance. The trailer is easily towed to any location in need of speed monitoring, including pedestrian areas, playgrounds, school zones and work zones. It is well-suited for operation by law enforcement and neighborhood watch groups.

The on/off key actuates the motor to raise/lower the 2" x 2" x .120" high grade steel square tubing sign support frame. The 34"W x 33"H x 12"D, .125" aluminum speed display cabinet has a lexan window thickness of .1875". The 24" x 30" fixed speed limit sign has two 8" x 10.4" changeable numerals to match the posted speed limit. The "YOUR SPEED IS" sign is 40" x 7", .080" aluminum.

The top-mounted solar panel has 55-watt single crystal module that charges at 3.15A/17.4VDC with load, recharging a day's worth of battery use with only 2.5 hours of sunlight. The 3.25" radar head has a beam width of 12" circular and a detection distance of up to 1/2 mile. The large, lockable battery/storage box houses a 120V/25A battery charger and a Group 29 deep cycle 12 volt battery that provides over 18 days autonomy at 78ºF.

The heavy duty, rustproof steel trailer has a compact, see-through design. It has 3"x 3" x .120" high-grade steel square tubing, and the tongue is 3"x 3" X .180" high-grade steel square tubing. Its travel position height is 48", with a 92" display position height. It is 65"wide, with a length of 105"(70" with tongue retracted or removed). The vandal-deterrent retractable/removable tongue and optional motion sensitive alarm reduce the possibility of theft.

The trailer weighs 900 lbs., with a towing load weight of 55 lbs. Its towing capacity is 3500 lbs. and axle capacity is 2000 lbs. The tires are P175/80R13. The trailer has stabilizing/leveling jacks and 4" recessed trailer lights. Striping and police lettering are standard, with optional custom striping available. Other options include a traffic counter/classifier, violator alert, axle lock, coupler lock, removable jack handles, tongue wheel jack, protective cover and approach-only bi-directional radar. The Solar Mobile Traffic Monitor is designed to facilitate speed limit compliance. Approaching motorists see their speed displayed on 18" characters, up to 1100 feet away. Once motorists are aware of speed monitoring, average speeds decline and a safer traffic environment exists. The trailer-mounted, speed monitoring system incorporates LED lamp matrix pixels covered by space-age optics to produce a bright, distinctive display. The unit is designed to provide long-lasting use, with low operating costs and minimal service. The monitor also gathers and classifies pertinent vehicle data.
