Reinforced concrete poles are durable, corrosion-resistant and easy to install. They support heavier loads with less deflection than light metal or fiberglass standards. Their rigid construction, from centrifugally spun casting procedures, produces greater density and superior strengths that prevent "wind sway".

The concrete pole series meets or exceeds the AASHTO and CSA standards for spun concrete poles, using only the most durable of materials. The concrete used in these poles conforms to ASTM C-150, type 1 or 3, and is mixed with coarse aggregate: either glacial gravel (standard), limestone or granite. The aggregate conforms to ASTM C-33 and is uniformly graded from a maximum size of 3/8" to 5% passing a #100 sieve.

The manufacturing process adheres to strict standards. The water used in the construction of these poles contains no harmful quantities of alkalines, oils or organic matter to ensure maximum integrity of the concrete. The standard mix is designed to reach 7,000 psi in 28 days with a 5%±1% air entraining. A minimum compressive strength of 3,500 psi is reached before transfer of pre-stressing force; then a minimum of 28 days compressive strength of 7,000 psi is achieved. When necessary, the poles are steam cured. The pre-stressing is done using stress-relieved wire strands with a minimum ultimate strength of 270,000 psi and a final pre-stress tension of at least 60%-70% of the ultimate strength. Concrete coverage of the steel pre-stressing cable shall be a minimum of 5/8" throughout the length of the pole. Where minimum coverages cannot be maintained due to cable entrances, hand holes, wire outlets, etc., the pre-stressing cable shall be protected from corrosion with a moisture resistant sleeve or coating.

Part numbers listed on the following pages reflect the standard pole color of Sky Gray with an etched finish and an acrylic sealer. You may select any color from our color chart or have a custom color designed for you.
