These solar-powered LED stop signs (BlinkerSign®) from TAPCO in Milwaukee are really great. They can be seen from a great distance in both bright daytime as well as at night. These solar LED traffic signs are apparently installed on a simple post, and do not need any external wiring or power source. Checking with TAPCO at their website (www.tapconet.com) these solar-powered LED traffic signs can also be supplied with wireless send and receive capability, so that the LEDs blink only when desired.
For example, pedestrian crossing signs only blink when the pushbutton is activated, or curve warning signs that blink only when the vehicle is approaching too fast, as detected by a solar-powered radar gun. These new traffic sign products offer the traffic engineer with a low-cost way to address difficult traffic control situtations without requiring a full-blown signalized intersection control system.
