FHWA regulations in MUTCD Section 2A.09 require that beginning 6-13-2014 municipalities shall implement and maintain an assessment or management method that is designed to maintain traffic sign retroreflectivity on a continual basis. Retroreflectivity is measured using a retroreflectometer. Signs with retroreflectivity below the minimum levels should be replaced.
